Dartmouth College’s oldest a cappella group, the Dartmouth Aires were founded in 1946 as an offshoot of the Glee Club. In the 1970s they broke away from the Glee Club and became an established independent college landmark. They usually have 16 members but that may vary from term to term. They arrange their own music and their membership pick their own songs based on the group’s tastes. They were chosen as one of the 16 a capella groups to compete in 2011 NBC’s The Sing Off. To date, they are a member of the final 6 remaining teams and I can see why. They bring an energy to the competition that is amazing and a choice of music that is brilliant. To date, they have performed tunes such as Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder and Pinball Wizard from the rock opera Tommy. But last week’s performance of a Dartmouth Aires Sing A Queen Medley was truly electrifying! So tune in on Monday night for The Sing Off on NBC at 8 pm – you will not be disappointed!
